Hello all! I am pleased to announce that Katie and I both safely made it to Thailand. Throughout our 22 hours of travel, we suffered screaming babies, endured our seats being violently kicked, and (hopefully) avoided contracting pink eye. And I have to say... So far it really was worth it...
Our first day here mainly consisted of us wandering around the streets of Bangkok. The locals were helpful in pointing us in the right direction. They are ALWAYS eager to help... Sometimes it can get a little creepy. But don't worry, we are being safe!
We made it all the way to Thailand's Chinatown and our first Thai food was actually (and surprisingly) super authentic Chinese dim sum. Chinatown is not exactly where the tourists usually wander, so we were shooed away from several food stands where the workers did not speak any English. Luckily, the food we did find was delicious. We ate it too fast to take any pictures though... All that wandering made us hungry! We loved looking around at all of the wares in the markets:
We are staying in the "backpackers' ghetto" of Bangkok. It feels a little like a Rosarito spring break in Mexico. Even though we passed out early from jet lag, we woke up at 3am Thailand time to hear the streets still raging. We are looking forward to participating in the madness tonight now that we are well rested. Here is our street, complete with aggressive pedestrians and crazy drivers:
Well we are off to start our 2nd day abroad. Tomorrow we take an overnight bus to the southern islands of Thailand, where we will spend the next 10 days soaking up some sun, as the locals here have already made fun of us for being so white. We also plan to enjoy the Full Moon festivities that will take place down there on New Years Eve. Hope you enjoyed this installment of Katie and Amanda Do Asia!
Love to all, Kob Kun Ka for reading, and Happy New Year!
We prepped for months. We were poked and prodded. And now it is time for Amanda and Katie to take on Southeast Asia! Here is our shared account of our amazing adventures.
