After the Full Moon Party, Katie and I decided we wanted to experience less touristy features of Thailand and start integrating more culture into our travels. We met a fellow Bay Area resident named Nathan who graduated from Fremont High School a year after we did and had the same ambitions regarding Thai culture. For all three of us, culture equals lots and lots of food!!!

Speaking of Thai culture, you may not know this, but Thailand recognizes and respects a third gender here, unofficially titled by foreigners as Lady Boys. These fellas are some of the most exquisite women you have ever seen! We experienced it live and in person at the popular Koh Samui beach of Chaweng. If you don't think you would be deceived by these performers, take a look for yourself:
In person it is even more over the top and impressive. We had a great time, especially with all of the American music that the ladies lip synced and danced to. It was Broadway caliber, I'm telling you!
For the more macho in our audience, we also managed to see a Muay Thai fight. Tickets were 1500 baht (50 American dollars), but we grabbed seats on the balcony of a nearby coffee shop and saw the fights for free.
And for those of you who like some action on your blogs:
As you can see, there is more to us than buckets and neon :).
Hope you enjoyed the brief cultural interlude! See you next time!
I LOVE all your pictures and updates!!! I am jealous of all the culture and fun your having! Glad your having a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteExcellent informative cultural interlude, but I must say you ladies look awesome in neon :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the photos. We feel like we are with you all the way - well except for the fact our fountain is frozen over in Portland and you are wearing bathing suits. Have fun!!!
